POST 1

Hi, my name is Caroline Joy, and I’m a wardrobe stylist based in Texas.

Unfancy is my own personal outfit journal, where I share daily mirror selfies and muse about how I felt getting dressed that day, whether profound or (more likely) mundane.

You can also find me on InstagramLTK, and Pinterest.

Once upon a time, I had a closet full of clothes but nothing to wear.

So I decided to try a capsule wardrobe.

I whittled my closet down to thirty-something items and launched Unfancy in 2014 to document my journey of newfound minimalism.

At first, I took a strict approach to my capsule closet, creating dos and don’ts for myself. I am, after all, a person who feels safe within structure.

But like any worthwhile journey, the path sloped and curved and I found myself in an unexpected place.

A real love was developing. My creativity was piqued by the self expression possible through fashion.

Eventually my respect of fashion — as an art form, a language, a bright spot in day to day life — bloomed. It became a radiant and irresistible part of my human expression.

And I decided not to downplay it, but to embrace it fully, even if it seemed to contradict my minimalist leanings.

I figured, I can honor both parts of me — the essentialist and the collector of beautiful things.

I take neither one too seriously, but enjoy each entirely.

I hope you find daily dressing inspiration here, and that what I share inspires you to trust yourself, hold things softly, and go toward what makes you come alive — especially if those things seem to be opposites.

Enjoy!

8 TIDBITS ABOUT ME

1 | Remi Wolf, Stevie Nicks, Taylor Swift — this is my dream musical posse.

2 | My style is often sporty mixed with classic elements. I draw a lot of inspiration from the ease and casualness of a summer camp. Sometimes I go incredibly minimalist. Overall, I like to feel unencumbered and unfancy in my clothes.

3 | Water is healing to me and I swim almost every day. Makes sense, I’m a Pisces.

4 | I love a good 90s-00s dance movie. If you sent me to a desert island and told me I could bring one movie, it would be Center Stage.

5 | If I could recommend one book on fashion it would be Dress Codes by Richard Thompson Ford.

6 | To me, the most luxurious feeling in the world is air drying my hair in the sunshine on a warm day.

7 | My go-to everyday lip color? Chanel’s Rouge Coco Flash in Jour

8 | A lavender matcha latte is my favorite treat.
